KL Friendlies Hockey Tour
Monday, 13 December 2010 08:02
The Ceylon Sports club Men’s hockey team made
a tour to Kl Malaysia to play a couple of friendly
matches over the weekend of 10 and 11 Dec 2010.
The team left Singapore on the morning of Friday
10 Dec and played a series of 5 a side matches with
Kelab Aman. CSC lost the series 2-1 in the 3 match
series. We won the opening game 3-2. But the second
game was lost 7-3 and the deciding game went to
our host 4-3. The games were hugely exciting with
goals galour. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the games.
The next day we played the team from University
Malaya old boys (MUGs) at Pantai Stadium. MUGs was
the first to score with a field goal in the seventh
minute. CSC followed suit with a field goal from
Azrul who looped the ball over the MUGs goalie to
equalize in the nintheen minute.
In the 30th minute, striker Marzuki scored CSC
goal of a brilliant move with a reverse hit that
gave the MUGs custodian no chance. CSC was unable
to hold on to the lead as MUGs i responded with
a field goal to equalise, in the 34th minute.
The game ended 2-2 and it also saw the biggest
support for any CSC overseas game as friends and
family of the player traveled to KL to see their
loves one play.
New Hockey Season 2011
Monday, 13 December 2010 08:03
Ceylon Sports Club foresees a tougher challenge
in the 2011 season which begins with National Junior
league in January 2011.
“We have made the finals of the National Junior
league a couple of times and we hope we can do it
again this season,” said CSC Team Manager.
We have a few players who played an instrumental
role in CSC finishing 2nd in the Division 2 league
and winning the Division 2 playoff.
“All the favourite teams have most of the
Singapore national junior players with them, they
will be strong. CSC anticipate a tough season. We
will give them a good fight. Our target could be
achieved”
As for the 2011 SHF league season CSC will play
in Division 1 and 3. We may field a Division 4 development
team if its possible.
CSC beat SRC 5-4 on penalties in the Division 2
play-off final after finishing runners-up in the
Division 2 league this season. Next season we will
be in Division 1 and the competition will be much
tougher. CSC is confident in gaining promotion to
the Premier league.
CSC narrowly missed promotion to Division 2 after
finishing 5th in the Division 3 league. The margin
between the Division 3 champions Khalsa and CSC
was only 2 points. Had we won one of the games we
lost were would have been champions of Division
3. For next season there is a good chance of us
finishing in the top four.
We will also be participating in tournaments such
as the under-18, the Wooden Shoe and Hockey village
pre-season. We finished runner-up in the pre-season
tournament this year.
CSC will also look to make a few overseas trip
to play games. This year we went to KL on the weekend
of 10 & 11 Dec for two friendly games.
Next season CSC will again look to add more glory
for the club.
CSC WIN PLAYOFF TITLE 2010
Saturday 27 Nov 2010
Ceylon Sports Club defeated SRC 5-4 on penalties
after the full time score had remained 1-1 in the
final of the SHF Division two playoff finals at
Sengkang Hockey Stadium here on Saturday. CSC, who
won the last title the Division 1 playoff in 2006,
was desperate to bag a major title since that wonderful
victory. With this victory, under-pressure Ceylon
Sports Club ended the year on a high note after
finishing runner-up in the league in October.
Keeping in view the performance of SRC against
Indian Association in the semi-finals, Ceylon Sports
Club came out all charged up and dominated their
fancied rivals throughout the match. Even though
SRC made numerous inroads into the Ceylon Sports
Club circle, goals eluded them. Marzuki Pangira
put Ceylon Sports Club ahead with his team’s
first penalty corner in the 16th minute while SRC
equalised three minutes before half-time. The remaining
period saw an exciting game of Hockey. At full time
both team were not able to score from the chances
that were presented to them. The sudden death extra
time also produced no goals although CSC was holding
the upper hand.
In the ensuring Penalty strokes CSC put all 5 into
goals in. However SRC missed one thus handing the
trophy to the jubilant CSC team.
Ceylon Sports Club captain Gopal also found it
hard describe his feelings at winning a long-awaited
title. “It’s our turn to celebrate.
Taking the title from a well establish SRC side
who had so may ex international in their ranks was
really worth the effort. Winning after five years
was important, but I am happier that we have also
booked a place in next years Division 1 league”
Arqil double strikes send CSC into SHF
Div 2 League finals
Saturday, 20 November 2010 05:00
Double individual goals from Arqil and a display
of consistency, CSC overcame Indian Association
2-1 in the semi-final of the SHF Division 2 League
knockout competition. Having secured the runner-up
in the league compertition last week CSC will now
play favorites SRC in the finals next Saturday 27
Nov at Sengkang Pitch 1. CSC has conquered Indian
Association for the third time this year in the
league (winning 3-0, 6-1 and 2-1 ) encounter.

Last Saturday, CSC, powered by the brilliant individual
strikes of 15 year Arqil and pugnacious work in
the defense by captain Gopal and the gang, won a
battle of wits against our neighbors IA.
A beaming captain attributed the lack of pace and
slow built up to the nervousness of the players,
most of them playing in big semis for the first
time. “ CSC deserved the win we had the better
chances. I am glad we are still undefeated this
year.,” he said.
CSC remained undefeated and gain promotion
Sunday, 14 November 2010

CSC held League leaders SRC in their last league
game to secure the runner-up position in the Division
2 League 2010. The runner-up position was secured
as follows:
Game 1 (CSC 4 vs Tornados HC 0) A good spirited
CSC got a comfortable 4-0 win over Tornados with
goals from Favil (2) Adi Santara and Gannappan.
Game 2 (CSC 5 vs D’Masters 1) A Aswafigil
double gave CSC an early advantage and Marzuki and
Fadzizal Azrul sealed the points with ten minutes
left. Centre Faizal added a late goal and Captain
Gopal was very pleased with his sides performance
but warned “We now face a tricky game against
Hollandsc Club”
Game 3 (CSC 3 vs Hollandsc Club 1) CSC faced a
strong determined challenge from Hollandsc Club
in the SHF National Division 4 League but goals
from Marzuki, Fadzizal Azrul and Stanley Owen against
a solitary reply by Hollandsc Club gave the CSC
side a 3 -1 advantage.
Game 4 (CSC 2 vs Police SA 2) After the month’s
Hari Raya break however CSC were disorganized and
had to work hard for the points and Police were
two up at the interval before Aswafigil reduced
the deficit to a single goal after the interval
as Police continued to offer strong resistance.
CSC equalize through a fine team goal Fadzizal Azrul
deflected goal brought the teams level. Indeed CSC
was unfortunate not to get the winner deep into
injury time.
Game 5 (CSC 3 vs Indian Association 0) CSC recovered
from recent poor results against Police SA to ease
past Indian association by three goals to nil at
Sengkang. Marzuki gave CSC a half time lead and
a Fadzizal Azrul double after the break gave CSC
a convincing three goal lead.
Game 6 (CSC 1 vs ORA 0) This game could have gone
either way as ORA fought tooth and nail for every
ball. CSC Fadzizal Azrul gave his team the lead
when he rounded the keeper to roll the ball into
the empty net with ten minutes to play to close
the game out.
Game 7 (CSC 2 SCC 2) CSC gave away two goal lead
to finish the 2-2. CSC goals were by Marzuki and
Fadzizal Azrul which gave CSC a 2-0 lead at half
time. A lapse in concentration cost CSC to concede
two simple goals. CSC Coach commented “We
had early chances but SCC produced a strong second
half.”
Game 8 (CSC 2 vs National Women 1) Marzuki gave
CSC the lead early in the first half. But the Women
equalized deep into the half from a penalty corner
that CSC defends fail to clear. A second half bombardment
of the Women’s goal finally gave CSC the deserved
lead when Gannappan score the winner.
Game 9 (CSC 2 vs Nanyang Polytechnic 1) CSC should
have won convincingly but the CSC forwards were
very wasteful in front of goal. Mohd Kuthbudeen
and Tan Cho Beng gave CSC the lead before NYP scored
a consolation thru Singh.
Game 10 (CSC 2 vs Singapore Veterans 0) This was
a convincing win over the Singapore Veterans Hockey
Association. Goals from Mohd Kuthbudeen and Sentil
gave CSC a 2-0 win and the second spot in the league.
CSC will play in Division 1 next year. CSC will
also be in the SHF Knockout Cup Semi-finals on 20th
November.
Game 11 (CSC 0 vs SRC 0) The top two teams of the
league played to a 0-0 stalemate. The champions
SRC with a full squad were unable to breakdown the
CSC defense well marshaled by Captain Gopal. In
fact had Fadzizal Azrul taken his chance after going
round the SRC custodian CSC would have won this
game.
We remained undefeated
in the league.

with the final round of matches next Sunday.
CSC reached second spot after a hard fought victory
over the SVHA team. CSC won 2-0 on Wednesday night
at Sengkang Pitch. CSC have a record of 8 wins 2
draws and no lost after 10 matches. CSC final game
will decide who remains undefeated for the season.
CSC will be promoted to Division 1 if its hold

CSC AMONG LEADERS OF THE PACK IN THE DIVISON
2 LEAGUE
Monday October 11, 2010
Ceylon Sports Club held off a late surge from Hollandsc
Club to secure a 3-1 victory and maintain their
unbeaten run at the SHF Men's Division 2 League.
Two weeks after scoring a convincing 5-1 victory
over D’masters Team CSC was on target again
eight minutes into the match when CSC’s Azrul
capped off a good CSC move by deflecting a good
forward pass into the top-left corner.
The CSC forward was on fire as the Hollandsc team
defence just could not handle him. CSC was on target
again 23 minutes into the first half when Faisal
deflected another effort off a long corner which
found him unmarked on the right post to make it
2-0.
The Hollandsc Club were not going down without
a fight and they initiated their comeback in the
second half and through their centre forward whose
strike from a good right wing cross hit the back
of CSC goal.
Against the run of play CSC got a penalty stoke
when a Hollandsc Club defender stop the goal-bound
ball with his legs. Marzuki brought the score to
3-1 in CSC favour.
Hollandsc Club went in search of an equaliser testing
Goalie Iskandar and his defence on numerous occasions
before the final whistle was blown to award CSC
maximum points. CSC remains undefeated at the top
of the table in the early running of the league.
After the match, the CSC Captain said: “We
controlled the game and outplayed Hollandsc Club
for the majority of the first half but the second
half it was tough but we held on for a good win”.
The result means CSC now have 16 points after 6
games played and is second in the league. That next
game takes place on Sat 16 Oct against National
Women at 4.30pm at Sengkang Stadium
Men's Div 2 League 2010

After a good win over a strong AETOS team the CSC
Division 3 Team is having a break from competition
because of the YOG, Muslim fasting month and School
Exams. We resume the league on Sunday 17 Oct with
an evening game with Barkerites at 7.30pm at Sengkang

CSC finish 2nd in the Tornados Invitational
at Hoki Village
Tuesday, 01 June 2010 10:05
Last year, we won the Hockey One Liga with a very
young team, However only Ho Wei Hong, Marzuki, Azrul
and Igbal remains in this years team. So we expect
to finish in the top half of the league.
This year, we do not have any star players. However
we have a few good under-18 players which we feel
has a lot of potential to do very well. As this
tournament is a pre season tournament, we wish to
take full advantage of in preparing our League Div
2 and 3 teams.
In Men’s Tornadoes Tournament, Ceylon Sports
Club’s big 7-2 will against Hollandsc Club
was not enough to win the Tournament. Even though
it had been the only team to have beaten eventual
Champion Jurong West, because of the 4 draws in
the group stages, this cost CSC the chances to fight
for the Tornadoes title it won last year. CSC finished
2nd in the Tornadoes tournament with 5 wins, 4 draws
and a single lost to finish at 19 points.
CSC had introduced a few youngsters in this tournament,
who did very well and look ready for the National
league in July.

CSC FULLY RECHARGED AND RARING TO GET BACK
TO ACTION
Ceylon Sports Club aim to put aside their disappointment
of losing the Tornados Tournament tile and make
a charge to win the Singapore Hockey Federation
Division 2 and 3 league.
Ceylon Sports Club surprisingly lost the Tornados
Tournament to Jurong West last month.
"My players can do much better, and since
in the SHF league, we hope to have our full squad
and hope to collect maximum points from the start,"
said CSC captain.
The Singapore Hockey Federation league will start
on 11 July with all our Division 2 matches being
played on Saturdays and Division 3 matches on Sundays.
"Even though we will be playing against much
stronger teams, we will have to bring out our best
to collect maximum points. As all the teams have
had good preparation this years tournament will
be much more competitive," said CSC Coach.
However, SRC and Police will again start off as
firm favourites to land the title. With numerous
ex international in their ranks they will be hard
to defeat.
All Division 2 matches will be played at the New
Sengkang Stadium and the Division 3 at the Delta
Stadium.
