CSC boy’s team miss finals

Saturday, 12 December 2009

Two CSC boy’s team just completed a successful under-18 tournament organised by SHF and Khalsa Association. The team is preparing for the national under-21 tournament which will be held in January 2010. This tournament will also be the stepping stone to their participation in the schools and SHF league later next year.

The team gathered at Delta stadium early Saturday morning. CSC A team was able to have a few good games, as well as games against top club sides. The team finished second out of six teams in its group and were not able to make the finals. The were no semi-finals in this tournament as such the CSC A team did not get another opportunity to make the finals. Going into their last game of the tournament, the team had won two games, tied two and lost one, had to win against School A (team which will play in the Youth Olympic next year). CSC A gave a good account of them-selves before losing 1-0 late in the game.

In front of a small crowd, the CSC A team surprised the Schools A team by pressing immediately. While the CSC A could not convert this early pressure. However, School A won a corner in the 9th minute to and scored late in the game.

The CSC B team comprising mostly secondary one students did well enough to earn two draws from their six group games.

LEAGUE OF TWO HALFS

Wednesday, 11 November 2009

The CSC Division 2 men’s hockey team did not achieve any significant successes in this years SHF league. The CSC team finished six in the 12 team SHF league, ending up with four wins, six losses and one drew. The league started off well with 4 wins one draw and a loss in the first 6 games. CS was at full strength. However the season turned on its head when the second half of the season only produce 5 losses and one win due mainly to the Muslim fasting month and the school exams which resulted in CSC unable to field its best team for all its game.

“There were much better teams in the league.” said CSC team captain. “If we had our full team we could have easily made to the top three in the league. The biggest relief for us was that the team did not give away any walkovers. Playing the league with a weaken side was more difficult itself as you compete with many teams who give their best to get through to the top four,” he said.

The team coach, however, underlined several areas where the team need to work on. “A lot of improvement is needed. Penalty corner defence and conversion and we need to better our scoring ability. The players are required to jell better,” he said.

Recalling CSC’s average performance in the SHF 2009 Division 2 League, CSC Coach hoped that the team would do much better next year.

MEN STRUGGLED IN THE WOODEN SHOE TOURNAMENT 2009

Saturday, 24 October 2009 18:54

CSC blew three sitters, while Hollandse Club scored two gift goals to snatch a 2-1 win in the Men’s Wooden Shoe Group C group match. Thus handing Hollandsc Club the quarter Finals slot.

The opening goal was a blunder by two CSC defenders in the 10th minute. Hollandsc Club attacker made an interception and pounced upon the loose ball and scored for the lead.

CSC played in patches after that, but still received two open chances but could not score.

Hollandsc Club increased the lead when their stricker tapped in a penalty corner attempt from the top of the semi-circle to beat CSC goalkeeper in the 15th minute.

CSC pulled one back upon resumption when they scored a field goal within a minute, but the fight fizzled out as bad passing, poor ball control and struggling to clear the ball when under attack crept in.

The rest of the match was a struggle as the CSC team mounted raids after raids on the Hollandsc Club “D’, without much success, as the Hollandsc Club held onto their lead and only made calculated forays.

CSC SETTLE FOR SILVER

Saturday, February 21, 2009

The bubble finally burst for CSC Juniors in the final game of the Tornados 5-a-side Tournament at Hockey village pitch on Saturday. Although they had been unbeaten before the finals, they went down 4-3 to the Tornados ‘A’ team.

In the group matches and the quarter and semi-finals CSC had recorded victories over Tornados ‘A’ by 4-0, Inova (7-1), JJC (9-0) and Hollandse Club ‘B’ by 4-0. That was enough to book their passage to the quarter-finals where they beat SVHA 8-1. In the Semi-finals CSC needed a golden goal from Shalan to will 4-3 over Hollandse ‘A’ to make it to the final.

It was very much mission accomplished for CSC coach Guna after an unbeaten run of six matches earlier in the competition.

In the finals CSC were blown away by a three-goal blitz from the Tornados ‘A’ forward, when the CSC Juniors were unable to cope with breakaways at pace by the opponents.

CSC captain said: "It was disappointing to lose the final game, but if you`d asked me before the tournament to settle for a place in the finals and the silver medal, I would have accepted that willingly. Against the Tornados in the final we played much better in the second half, but it was too little too late by then."

BRAVE CSC BEATEN BY CHAMPION HOLLANDSE CLUB

Reigning Super-9 champion CSC were beaten by Hollandse Club on penalty flicks 9-8 after the game had ended 1-1 in normal time.

CSC UNDER-21 TEAM CONFIRMED PLACE IN THE Q-FINALS

Last year under-21 boys finalist CSC have virtually confirmed their place in the Q-finals of the SHF under-21 boys tournament 2009 after a thumping 16-0 and 6-0 wins over the Hawks TPJC and OVA respectively at last weekends games at the Delta Hockey Stadium yesterday.

Hat-trick heros Mohd Fazli, Sairulnizam and Mohd Fazli was the toast for CSC and Hafiz, Azrul, Mazuki scored two goals each while Moon Jun netted one as CSC demolished Hawks TPJC on Saturday 3 Jan.

On Sunday CSC won 6-0 against OVA with a hat-trick by Azrul.. The other scorers were Igbal, Ri Hua and Lakshman. With the win CSC need only 3 more points from their last two group games to confirm the quarter final slot. The way the boys have been playing it is possible they will finish top of the table in their group.

CSC Captain said he was surprised with the margin of victory over the Hawks TPJC and OVA as CSC is a very young side averaging only 17 years. After losing all its senior players to National Service the team was built around Yuhua School boys and remaing CSC players.

“We never expected to score such a big win over TPJC and OVA. It’s a good result for us and we are as good as assured of a semi-final place,” he said.
