Soccer
The Lanka Union first played football
in 1920. The game seems to have had mixed fortunes
throughout the years. According to the late B. Kula
Singam M.B.E., in a match played in Kuala Lumpur
on 29 March 1929 between CSC and TPCA, the Club
lost 4-0. A Trophy was donated by Mr. V. Suppiah
on that occasion.
In April 1999, the Club
formed the under-18 Soccer team, under the convenorship
of Mr. Sathyamoorthy. Response had been very encouraging
and the players number about fifty, from several
secondary schools.
Trainings are held every
Sunday from 8.30 am to 10.30 am. The Club with the
Football Association of Singapore is now affiliated
since 1999. The Club will benefit from this affiliation
in terms of opportunities to play in league matches
and attend soccer clinics. Like the other games,
the Club offers the mentor programme to the players
to assist them in their studies.
